The village of Estômbar is one of the oldest parishes in the Algarve. It enchants us with the silhouette of the whiteness of its houses, appearing in the municipality of Lagoa as the best metal production in urban agglomerations.

With an important structure called "Quinta dos Burros" or donkey refuge that preserves this endangered species, Estômbar is one of the most important villages in the Algarve due to its history of the conquest of the Castle by D. Sancho I in 1191, and which served as a base for the conquest of Silves.

Sanabus, the name of the current village of Estômbar at the time of the Arab occupation, constituted an important center inside a castle called Abenabeci, which the troops of King Sancho I conquered around 1191. In this beautiful land of contrasts, figures such as the poet Abenamar, the legendary and brave Remexido, as well as noble personalities of the Clergy and Nobility (who need to be highlighted) saw the light of day.

Given its privileged location, Estômbar was once an economic center of great prosperity. Based on an essentially agricultural economy, Estômbar began to gain notoriety and wealth with the increase in activities related to salt exploration and commercial traffic in the Arade River. However, it is with the dynamism given to the Canning Industry that the parish expands, gaining new population clusters and new sources of income. With the decline of these activities, the village found its livelihood in others.

Currently, the village of Estômbar has a small business fabric linked to civil construction, public works and children's expansion.

Despite suffering the effects of interiorization, Estômbar is endowed with modern infrastructures and equipment related to health, education, leisure, aiming at the quality of life of its residents.
